17-30 September

we might have reached autumn at last and it’s time to put on a jacket. over the last weeks we got to experience plenty of musical joy and stimulating sounds. not least due to unsafe+sounds which was beautiful from start to finish and we’re grateful to the team for curating and realizing this festival once more. a write-up of our impressions will follow shortly. on a different note, make sure to check out the review at the bottom of this post on a great show a while back. now, take care and see ya in the next one (^-^*)ノ

28 sept - 4 oct; just listed a random assortment of the artists that I somewhat know or looked extra intriguing; looking like a really cool experimental lineup. Most stuff I’ve never listened to so my maybe random highlight is the duo reimagining Hildegard von Bingen thru Ukrainian traditional singing and synth, they have a really awesome (in the old sense) record check it out

Review: HEALTH + Carpenter Brut + Chat Pile + Sierra Vein (August 11, Arena Open Air)
here we go with our FIRST bilingual review by two anonymous collaborators (thank u!! <3 - and thank you again to Chat Pile & the people behind their tour for the press ticket!)
sierra veins:
“She was alone on stage and still had such a big and strong aura. Didn’t know her before but I was really impressed by her set, loved the vibe!”
chat pile:
one of our contributors went specifically to see chat pile and they loved it a lot: “they were weird, funny, but also depressed, just an all around good performance and really showed their politics - not least by playing the songs with the most sharply critical lyrics. overall a really fun and good show!”
Our other contributor: “This was an interesting one for me, because I personally don’t listen to much metal or go to metal shows. But it was proper fun and the band did a great job setting a vibe.”
health:
“I’m biased since I went to the whole show to see HEALTH but they were SOOO GOOD. Amazing live vocals, amazing show (the lights!!), the audience was feeling it too. The guitarist and drummer also went into the crowd after the gig to interact with fans which was really cute.”
“We listened to HEALTH a lot and also saw them live before, but were really disappointed this time. The production was really good, but it all came over very performative, which I also don’t remember from earlier shows. Perosnally I couldn’t take it seriously, it sounded like music they would play at a League of Legends tournament…”
carpenter brut:
“We went in with a negative bias but still enjoyed it more than HEALTH in the end. Still a similar synth metal vibe, still LoL music for me, but generally more fun.”
“SOOOOO GOOOOD
I was a fan before but am more of a fan after! The light show was extra amazing in the darkness, and the whole vibe was dark and mysterious but still fun and upbeat at the same time. Great culmination of the evening for me!”
and here’s the original in german by one of our reviewers in all its unadulterated glory:
sierra veins:
