Okay this was a schwere Geburt and sorry for being late. I hope you and all your dears made it as well and alive as possible through this early apocalypse weather and that we can finally learn our lessons from this more drastically, urgently, together.
In the meantime, the music machine rolls on. Or rather, there’s a good bit of interesting gigs but deffo a Sommerpause feeling - but on the other hand we have lots of announcements to do, so this is a friendly reminder to our TODAY button right on top if you wanna skip past to see what’s happening this fortnight!
We’re marking a few firsts this time around. On the one hand, some of us did their second fundraiser gig and first club event and I think it went really great! A big bunch of cute people showed up on a Thursday night, I made my first DJ set and had a great time (scroll way down for setlist hehe) and we made almost 1600€ Profit - to be exact, we were able to donate 795.45€ each to campaigns for Zakariya to make it to Vienna with his family and for Abdul-Rahman and his family to survive in Gaza. Expect another similar event around another of our Birthdays :3
Then we are for the first time testing out a bit of a closer collaboration with a promoter than the usual gig-tickets-for-short-review trick we’ve been pulling more and more; namely we are trying to give the soon upcoming Unsafe+Sounds festival acts some of our more sustained attention already in preparation. See the just announced listings for all names dropped so far, and short personal thoughts at the bottom of the newsletter :)
Also! Take a closer look at our just anounced section if you will - there is for the first time some offers/requests for help in organising stuff, both from our side and from Poland!
Let’s see how this goes, we will feel out our capacities and sensibilities, and never hesitate to get in touch - not only if you wanna contribute regularly, but also if you want to offer feedback and criticism. I know we’re just a tiny nerd thing for now but I think we do want to help build something of integrity.

Some tired thoughts on Unsafe+Sounds
So, not to be pretentious but I’m going to take it from this year’s festival motto, “the level sunlight still warms walls.” I liked this a lot when I first saw it, it feels like a direct response to struggling with hopelessness in a world where every month the odds seem more stacked against us - which by the way, and I’m basically just cluelessly yapping but hey, I don’t necessarily think is correct in all the ways - climate wise it probably is and this is probably the worst truth of it but societally I’m afraid that in a country like Austria many of us still have to see things get worse closer to home before we wake up more. Anyways. But my music listening experience is super dependent on current mood and outlook on life, so when I started listening a bit recently, many (definitely not all, see Earth Ball, Isabella Forciniti, Saint Abdullah & Eomac, …) of the acts so far announced struck me as oscillating between, depending on perspective, nourishingly tender and weakeningly depressive. This is probably not a very enlightening perspective, from someone who doesn’t practice music herself and currently often avoids listening to sad music to, well, not get too sad, but I guess I can’t help looking at things from within myself. In any case, it’s interesting that Shilla Strelka who I think mainly curates the festival(?) also specifically wrote that this edition is going to be “less confrontational than in recent years”. I guess I just want to leave it at the question of whether this has any substantial connection to political thinking about what has been changing in the past years or whether this is a more personal curatorial choice. Is this the time to focus less on rage and more on turning inwards? None of which would say infinitely much about the quality of the music being played, which we seem set to get more deeply into in two weeks, when a) I get my head out my ass and into my ears, and b) my comrades with different and sometimes more emotionally stable perspectives will also be contributing to this little project that I surprised them with a day ago :)
