Review: Deafheaven + ♄♄♄♄♄ (Arena 22.07.)
I came in not knowing anything about ♄♄♄♄♄ (pronounced saturnists) but immediately got immersed into the atmosphere they created. Screams and melody that got the feet and even more so the head moving.
Their energies culminated when the lead singer decided to forgo the microphone and scream into the audience without needing amplification. Truly a wonderful moment that then led to the last moments of their performance.
As during the break the room filled up more and more (and i found my friends) the sweat that built up was an omen for the sweat that was yet to come. Deafheaven gave us an intense and moving (in the literal sense) performance. The pit was moshing and the mosh was pitting.
The lead singer seemingly teleported from side to side on stage. Screaming perched on the side of the stage he gave the impression of some sort of supernatural creature.
I had a truly beautiful time there but if i can say just one thing that irked me it’s that the crowd felt a lot more masculine than i have by now come to be used to (but still not as much so as i have feared based on some past experiences with metal crowds!)
Both bands created their own unique atmosphere. Both filled me with awe and a need to move my body. Both made me want more and the night left me especially looking forward to hearing more from ♄♄♄♄♄ to come! If you are able to go to either of them in the future i wholeheartedly recommend it. <3 🍄
