Wooooooooof we made a year!!

Let’s have a little ramble to mark the occasion (if the newsletter coming late wasn’t enough to trigger our early adopters‘ nostalgia to the fullest). Consider this section, for this edition, inspired by those recipe blogs intros. You all know what I’m talking about.

So one year ago apparently I was about the same level of disoriented in life as now but with enough energy to match the free time on my hands to single handedly start doing this, while now (yawn, I know I say it almost every time:) I have been surpassed by my helpers in many regards and this newsletter would probably not have made it through my uhhhh waning interest in the joy- and beautiful things in life such as music, as well as lack of motivation of the last months. So here’s once again to everyone doing this together! Looking back on the last year here’s some stuff to celebrate: Our subscribers are in the three-digit-zone now! Barely but it feels good!! Some people have told us they like what we’re doing! Some people have told us they READ what we’re writing!! And soon, there will be even more to celebrate coming from our side! To be seen very soon :))

Speaking of my aforementioned frequent lack of interest in, uhm, life, that stuff really sucks, but anyways yesterday walking home in the late evening I started listening to the newest Blood Orange album and it sounded gorgeous and heartfelt and I was like ouhhh maybe I do need my music to me more sweet and soft and emotional in these fucking times. It’s hard to say and silly to overgeneralise and in any case I’m not the most interesting voice on the matter by any measure lol but it did feel true for me for the moment and it also made me think of some other white person making a similar point, with the added credits of that man being an amazing musician and living in Actually Existing Fascism (or trying-to-come-into-existence, what do I know, and Black and other BIPoC folks in the US will have their own perspective on the spectacle of Trump/Miller’s current ICE regime in comparison to the similarly freakish deportation numbers of his predecessors). In any case, I found the article quite annoying – the kind of thing I sometimes think I wouldn’t write because it (self-confessedly, even) comes down to whining about wanting to make music instead of organising for political change – not that a girl cannot do both and not that the music doesn’t matter!!! – but so yesterday I did have to think about the article and thought okay, you do have a point. Also, I am writing this intro, so my horse in this scenario isn’t all too high. (Here’s the album plugged in that article, which I haven’t listened to a second of but I’m sure it’s beautiful.) So yeah, here goes the traditional rant. I’m basically the Armin Turnher (sorry for invoking the name of the Austrian patron saint of „left“-liberalism) of this publication now?!

As per usual, if applicable to your situation: stay safe, enjoy the snow, hug your friends, ask them for help and offer them such, try to get out of bed sooner rather than later in most scenarios, and try to do whatever to feel some of the beauty and ugliness of life and the weight of the world and some well directed hope!!! if possible and I will try the same to deliver you a less cynical message next time around. Oh and in good tradition: if me being allowed to write whatever here hasn’t convinced you yet, let me make it explicit: if you want to join and help out in some capacity in this newsletter, you’re ever so welcome to do so! Just text us! There’s so much music we don’t know too much about happening and much of it is probably so worthwhile!

anyway,
